Harry Kane to lead England at 2018 FIFA World Cup

The coach informed his squad of the decision at a meeting and believes that the star striker can make an impact on the team as England go with high hopes to Russia.

In surprising news, England coach Gareth Southgate announced that Tottenham Hotspurs striker Harry Kane would lead the Three Lions at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The coach informed his squad of the decision at a meeting on Monday night and believes that the star striker can make an impact on the team as England go with high hopes to Russia.

Southgate says Kane has "belief and high standards and it is a great message for the team to have a captain who has shown that it is possible to be one of the best in the world over a consistent period of time."

The 24-year-old striker has scored 12 times in 23 England appearances since making his debut in 2015.

Along with Kane, his clubmate Danny Rose will be present in the defence and former mate Kyle Walker as well, Eric Dier will be in the defensive midfield and Dele Alli will be in the attacking unit. 

England plays Tunisia, Panama and Belgium in the group stage at the World Cup next month.
