Sushil Kumar cries in lock-up as police question him in Sagar Rana murder case: Report

The two-time Olympic champion was awake all night and refused to eat anything; kept on sobbing throughout the night, reported Livehindustan.

Following his arrest as prime accused in the Sagar Rana murder case, which saw him absconding police for three weeks, celebrated wrestler Sushil Kumar broke down in tears when Delhi police questioned him for almost four hours at the Model Town police station, reported Livehindustan.

The report further elaborated, while quoting Delhi police, that the two-time Olympic champion was awake all night and refused to eat anything and kept on sobbing throughout the night.

Sushil allegedly went on to add that his intention was never to kill Sagar Rana alias Sagar Dhankar, who died in the Chhatrasal brawl on May 4, but only to scare by beating him up. He further added during the questioning that he was at Chhatrasal after the brawl but absconded from Delhi after learning of Sagar's death.

Police officials said they are investigating the case from different angles. "We are questioning Kumar to ascertain the sequence of events that transpired and led the crime and also about his whereabouts after the incident. He was also questioned about his associates and friends who helped him to hide. He will be taken to the spot for recreating the crime scene," a police officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

To rejig readers' memory, on May 4, two groups of wrestlers clashed with each other at Chhatrasal Stadium leading to the death of 23-year-old Sagar Rana due to injuries he sustained during the brawl. 

Sushil Kumar, prime accused of leading the brawl, was absconding ever since. And last week, Delhi Police had announced a cash award of Rs 1 lakh for feedback on the celebrated wrestler.

Post that on May 18, Kumar had moved an anticipatory bail in New Delhi's Rohini court, but the court rejected his bail plea.

He was then arrested. along with an associate, on May 23 from Delhi's Mundka region while riding a scooty to a friend's place to collect money.
