P V Sindhu lost a hard fought match to the host country's left-handed world no. 6 Bae Yeonju 21-14 18-21 21-13 that levelled the tie 1-1.Korean pair of Kim Soyeong and Chang Yena won the first doubles against the Indian duo of Pradnya Gadre and N Sikki Reddy in straight games 16-21 17-21, and then Korea's Kim Hyomin smashed P C Thulasi 21-12 21-18 to settle the issue in the hosts' favour.
In men's tennis, Yuki Bhambri defeated Nepal's Jeetendra by 6-0 6-0 after Sanam Singh posted a comfortable 6-0 6-1 victory over Abhishek Bastola. The Indian duo of Divij Sharan and Saketh Myneni registered a comfortable straight sets 6-0 6-0 win over Santosh Khatri and Sonam Dawa, thus sailing into the quarterfinals.
Indian men's hockey team also started their campaign with a big 8-0 victory over Sri Lanka.
