Asian Games 2023 Highlights: India win five medals on Day 7, men's team beat Pakistan in hockey

It was a good day for India, a record-breaking and history-making day with five medals coming including two gold and history beckons again on super Sunday.

India men's team is through to the finals of the Asian Games 2023 in Badminton. Srikanth has clinched the final match to help India reach the Gold medal match. A brilliant victory by the former world no.1 in a must-win match as he made a comeback after trailing 0-1 in the game. India through to the finals of the men's event for the very first time in Asiad. The Indian men's hockey team just didn't let Pakistan come even close to them in the Pool A encounter as the goal-scoring annihilation reached 10 for Harmanpreet Singh-led side in their best-ever performance against the arch-rivals.

Indian hockey team is all over Pakistan like a rash with captain Harmanpreet leading from the front. The 4-0 lead after the halftime became 6-0 in no time as Harmanpreet converted another penalty stroke and one more penalty corner in a span of just one minute in the third quarter.

A penalty stroke in the 11th minute and a penalty corner in the 17th minute, both converted by Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh to give India a 3-0 lead.

India added a couple of more medals to the tally on Day 7 as Kartik Kumar (28: 15: 38) and Gulveer Singh (28: 17: 21) won silver and bronze in the men's 10,000 metres race.

The duo of Abhishek and Mandeep Singh worked like a magic for India as the former provided the assist with the latter netting it in the 8th minute to get India a 1-0 lead.

Muhammed Ajmal finished fifth clocking 45.97 seconds. Saudi Arabia's Yousef Ahmed M took the top spot timing with 45.55.

Lakshya Sen comfortably beat Korea's Lee Yungyu 21-7, 21-9 in straight sets to help India take a 2-1 lead in the men's semi-final event.

Sen is leading in the second game as he is 11-4 up. Sen had earlier won the first game 21-7 and another win would get India 2-1 up in the semifinal.

Wow, brilliant by the Indian girls. Sutirtha and Ayhika have defeated the giants and world no.2 China in the women's doubles quarterfinal. A medal has been confirmed and this is the first time India will get a table tennis medal in women's doubles.

The Indians Sutirtha and Ayhika are on brink of a win in women's doubles quarterfinal. They are 2-1 up and 8-4 up in the fourth game. A win in this one would hand the match to India.

Lakshya Sen is now in action in men's singles in the third match against Yungyu Lee. This is a best of five-match semifinal and a win for Sen here could boost India's chances for a final berth.

Bindyarani has successfully lifted 83kg in snatch in her final attempt. She had lifted 80 in the first attempt. We have four more lifters who are yet to lift

And Koreans have made a comeback after HS Prannoy's win. Minhyuk Kang and Seungjae have defeated Chirag and Satwik in the men's doubles game to bring the equation 1-1. This is not over

Bindyarani Devi's 55kg weightlifting event is now underway. She has listed 80kg in snatch and 105kg in clean and jerk. Mirabai has already been knocked out and Bindyarani is India's final medal hope in weightlifting.

India are looking to make a comeback in the second match. Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty have lost the opening set in the doubles match. They are leading 15-12 in the second game. Prannoy had earlier won the first match.

HS Prannoy came from behind to give India a 1-0 lead in the men's team semi-finals beating Korea's Hyeokjin Jeon 18-21, 21-16, 21-19.

The Indians were trailing 0-1 as Mahesh had lost the first match. But Sourav Ghoshal was brilliant as he scripted India's magical comeback. He defeated Pakistan's Muhamaad Asim to get bring India back in it. Abhay Singh showed nerves of steel in a five-game thriller. He was trailing 1-2 in a best of five game. But then he bagged the next two games to propel India to a 2-1 win in best of three matches.

The women's team event medal ceremony is underway in squash. India women have won Bronze in it. 

And India have done it. How could you do it Abhay!. No way, India has made a comeback for the ages to win this match 3-2 

Pakistan has Gold medal point but India are not giving up.

Stop doing whatever you are. This game is an absolute thriller. Abhay 7-7 Noor. Four more points, who has got it?

Okay, this is not over yet. Abhay Singh has pulled one back and he is now levelled with Noor. It's 2-2 and it's now down to the final game.

And now India are 2-1 behind in this last match. Pakistan now need just one more game win to win the Gold medal. India under the pump. Abhay, Noor to resume the crucial game.

HS Prannoy has lost the first game in the semifinal and India are trailing 0-1

The third match goes to the wire as Pakistan cancel out India's lead in the second game to level the third match to 1-1.

HS Prannoy opens India's men's semifinal clash against South Korea's Jeon Hyeokjin.

Narender beats Iran's Iman Ramezanpourdelavar in the men's 92kg bout to enter the semifinal and secure a medal. He also earns India a Paris Olympics quota.

Sourav completely dominates the second match to equal the score to 1-1. He beats Pakistan's Asim Khan by 11-5, 11-1, 11-3. Abhay Singh will now face Noor Zaman in the decider match.

Mirabai finishes in the fourth position with 191 points on her return from the injury. North Korea's Ri Songgum wins Gold with a new Asian Games record for lifting 124kg in knee and knee-and-jerk session. China's Jiang Huihua claims Silver and Thailand's Sukcharoen Thanyathon bags Bronze.

Weightlifting standing final

India make a comeback as Sourav takes the first two games to help India dominate the second round by 11-1.

In her second attempt at 117kg lift, Mirabai Chanu fails again and hurt herself. She remains in the no.4 position with 191 points, eight points behind third-placed weightlifter.

Mirabai Chanu lifts 108kg in knee and jerk session during her second attempt. Boost to 2nd place in the standings and is looking for 117kg in the last attempt. 

India women beat Malaysia by 16-6 to enter the quarterfinal round where they will face Chinese Taipei.

After a disappointing performance in the snatch session, Indian ace Mirabai Chanu lifts 105kg in her first attempt in the knee-and-jerk session. She remains in the eight place and will target to improve her weights in the next two attempts.

Pakistan wins the first round match as Mahesh loses the first three sets against Nasir Iqbal by 11-8, 11-3, 11-2. Sourav Ghosal walks in for the second round for India and takes on Pakistan's Asim Khan.

Niraj Verma qualifies for the final with a 4:31.626 time in the men's canoe singles event.

Pakistan take the opening game by 11-8. India target easy comeback in the second game.

Mirabai Chanu ranks 7th after the snatch session, it will take some miracle to win the medal from here. Indian boxer is looking heartbroken.

India's star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu fails to lift 86kg weights in her second and third attempts. Her best remains 83kg. 

Next in the line is another clash for the Gold and it is India vs Pakistan in the men's squash final. Pakistan defeated India in the group-stage game but India won their last three games to enter the final as favourites. Mangaonkar Mahesh faces Pakistan's Iqbal Nasir in the first match.

Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale bag Gold in mixed doubles with a stunning comeback. India lost the first set but the Indian pair won the final by 6-2, 3-6, (4-10) to give India their 9th Gold in Asiad 2023. It's first major success for Rutuja and the second Gold in Asiad for the veteran Bopanna.

Indian pair Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale won the second set and are leading in the tiebreaker in the mixed finals.

Mirabai Chanu's 49kg final is now underway. Chanu has listed 80kg for her first snatch attempt and 105kg in clean and jerk.

India's top boxer displayed utter dominance over South Korea's Seong Suyeon to win the quarterfinal by 5-0 in the 74kg category. 

Manika Batra goes down 4-2 to Yidi Wang in the quarterfinal clash despite winning two match points in the fifth set.

India go down in the first set. The Chinese Taipei win the first set 6-2 depsite Bopanna/Rutuja trying to hang around.

The world champion Lovlina Borgohain faces South Korea's Seong Suyeon in the women's quarterfinal clash.

Manika Batra survives a scare and bags the game to live alive for another one. She is 2-3 behind now.

China regain the lead with Yidi Wang winning the third set by 11-6. China 2-1 India in the women's singles quarterfinal clash.

India lose in the men's doubles quarterfinal after a thriller. Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah took the lead in the last set but failed 11-9 to lose the game by 3-2.

China make a quick comeback by winning series 6 and 7 to close the gap. It's going to wire now with 7-7 score.

Indian shooters Sarabjot Singh and Divya Thadigol return to winning ways after losing the fourth series. It's 7-3 for India after series 5.

India lead after winning the first two series and drawing the third one. It's 5-1 for India after three series. 

Iran beat Pakistan for the Bronze and now India (Sarabjot Singh and Divya Thadigol) clash against China for the Gold medal match in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. 

Defending champion Swapna Barman gets knocked out from the women's high jump event after failing to cross the 1.73m mark. A big upset in Asiad 2023.

Last edition's gold medalist Swapna Barman clears 1.70m but fails to breach the next 1.73m mark and drops to fourth place.

India's Sarabjot Singh and Divya Thadigol will target a first Gold for India on Day 7 in a 10m air pistol mixed team event at 9:05 AM IST. They face China's Zhang Bowen and Jiang Ranxin in the final.

India's Aditi Ashok leads round 3 standing in the women's individual event with a score of 18 under par after 11 holes. Pranavi Sharath (T11) and Avani Prashanth (T17) continue to struggle in round 3.

India's Neeraj Verma qualifies for the semifinal after finishing sixth in the men's 1000m canoe sprint Heat 1 event with a time of 4:25.162s.

Both Jeswin Aldrin and Sreeshankar secure qualification to the final in the men's long jump event form different groups.
