The Indian men's archery team comprising Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav made the country proud by winning the gold medal in the recurve category after defeating the Olympic champions South Korea at the ongoing World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai.
India were clinical in their approach and claimed a 5-1 (57-57, 57-55, 55-53) victory over the South Koreans without dropping a set.
This is India's fourth fifth gold at the ongoing event. Earlier, a phenomenal effort by the Indian compound archers saw them bag gold medals in the men's, women's and mixed categories.
It was followed by another gold that came after Jyothi Surekha Vennam won the women's compound individual section.
The Indian trio got the better of South Korea's Kim Woojin, Kim Je Deok and Lee Woo Seok. Kim Woojin and Kim Je Deok were part of South Korea's gold medal-winning team at the Tokyo Olympics.
This is India's first men's team World Cup gold since 2010.
Former Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Rahul Banerjee, has mentioned that the win over the South Koreans is a huge statement and no one can India's ability to deliver against them any more.
"The nerves always kick in when Korea is in the final. But now, no one can doubt our ability to defeat them," Banerjee told PTI.
"They have been showing perfect rhythm right from the qualifying round and it's definitely one of the biggest wins in archery. They will now have to hold on to this momentum till Paris," he added.
So far, only Dhiraj Bommadevara has earned a berth for the Paris Olympics and the other Indian archers are desperately waiting to join him on the trip to Paris. The final qualifying event for the Paris Olympics will be the Stage 3 World Cup in Antalya, Turkey. It will be organised from June 18 to 23.
