Ace Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik, who made the country proud after bagging a bronze medal at 2016 Rio Olympics, tied the nuptial knot with her wrestler fiance Satyawart Kadian in Rohtak on Sunday.

The marriage was a grand affair, attended by two-time Indian Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar and former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Rio Olympic silver medallist P V Sindhu was also invited, but she couldn’t attend due to her Indian Open final on Sunday – which she won against Carolina Marin.

22-year-old Satywart is two years younger to Sakshi. He shot to fame when he won a bronze medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics.

It is reported that the couple drew close during the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where both the wrestlers won a silver medal.

Satyawart also won a bronze at the Asian Championships in the same year.

In 2016 Rio Games, Sakshi created history by becoming the first woman wrestler from India to win an Olympic medal after she defeated Aisuluu Tynybekova 8-5 in the play-off bout.

Satyartha was also on the verge of qualifying for Rio Olympics before he lost his final bout at the Asian Qualifiers in March 2016.

Sportspersons from different fields, including Virender Sehwag, Deepa Karmakar, Deepa Malik and Saina Nehwal, took to Twitter to shower wishes on the newly-wed couple.
