The Indian men's hockey team on Wednesday thrashed Japan 6-0 in their opening match of the Four Nations Hockey Tournament in Tauranga, New Zealand.
Rupinder Pal Singh, Dilpreet Singh and debutant Vivek Prasad led India's rout of Japan by scoring two goals each.
India gained the early advantage through Rupinder's penalty strike.
Vivek scored the second goal for India to give them a 2-0 lead at the end of first quarter.
In the second quarter, Japan pulled up their defence a bit but were not able to stop the ruthless Indians.
Vivek Prasad, who was on debut, scored his second goal of the match to make it 3-0 at half-time.
The third quarter began with some steady showers but there was no shortage of intensity from the Indians.
Dilpreet scored a brace and Rupinder too scored for the second time to make it 6-0 in the third quarter.
In the last quarter, India kept the pressure on the Japanese to secure their complete dominance.
India will now play Belgium and New Zealand in two separate Five-Day Series.
