The 2020 Tokyo Olympics is all likely to be postponed owing to the rise of coronavirus concerns across the world as said by a veteran member of the International Olympic Committee Dick Pound.

"On the basis of the information, the IOC has, the postponement has been decided," Pound told USA today."The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on 24 July, that much I know."

Pound, who is a Canadian and has been a key member of the IOC for decades, reckons that the committee will announce the steps soon.

“It will come in stages,” he said. “We will postpone this and begin to deal with all the ramifications of moving this, which are immense.”

Earlier on Sunday, IOC President Thomas Bach had said that the committee will take the next four weeks to decide the fate of the Olympics slated to begin from July 24 onwards. Bacj did rule out cancelling the games but did keep postponement an option.

If postponed, the Olympics will become the most significant sporting event to have been affected by the novel virus, which was first identified in the Wuhan district of China.
