Bhopal, Jun 15 : Punjab today became the first team to enter the semi-finals of the first national senior (men's) hockey championship conducted by Hockey India with a resounding 9-0 win over Bihar in the first quarter-finals. In the match played at the Aish Bagh stadium, Punjab led 4-0 at half-time.
Prabhdeep Singh of Punjab scored three goals for his team, Manpreet Singh contributed two goals while Satbir Singh, Sarvanjit Singh, Ranjodh Singh and Harpreet Singh scored a goal each.
Manpreet opened the account for Punjab by converting a penalty corner in the 23rd minute by dodging Bihar goalkeeper Sujit Kumar.
Of the nine goals scored by Punjab, two came from penalty corners while the remaining seven were field goals. PTI
