New Delhi: A British hockey player of Indian origin has accused hockey skipper Sardar Singh of sexually harassing her.
The lady, according to police, has been identified as 21-year-old Ashpal Bhogal, who has roots in Sirsa (Haryana). She is also the fiancee of Singh and has filed a complaint with Ludhiana police alleging false promise of marriage made by the player.
Bhogal, in her complaint, alleged that Sardar got her pregnant and the India captain abandoned her after this.
"He told me to abort the child, which I did against my wish. He stopped talking to me after that incident and has refused to marry me. He has harassed me emotionally, physically and mentally," she said.
Bhogal claimed that she met Sardar during the London Olympics and had also visited skipper's native village in Sirsa district last year.
"I met him during the London Olympics and we got to know each other better after that. We got engaged but in 2015 I got pregnant," she said, adding that during the World Hockey League in Antwerp last year, Sardar had assaulted her at a hotel.
Meanwhile, the Ludhiana police officials said that they are verifying the he complaint and no FIR has yet been registered.
Singh is the current captain of the Indian national team and usually plays the center half position. He became the youngest player to captain the Indian team when he led the side at the 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
