Sonepat, Apr 14 :  Hosts Haryana registered a comprehensive 3-0 win over Uttar Pradesh in the first semifinal of the Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship (North Zone) here Sunday.



Leading 1-0 at half-time, Haryana scored through Navneet Kaur (16th, 43rd) and Udita (49th) minute. Haryana looked the better outfit with a lot of character and composure while Uttar Pradesh committed far too many errors that put them on the defensive for much of the match.

Haryana controlled and dictated the pace from the start. There was variety in their moves with the forwards never starved of passes from the midfield. Centre-forward Navneet Kaur again made important contribution in Haryana's victory scoring two goals against Uttar Pradesh.

In the second semifinal, Chandigarh defeated Delhi 6-1. Anjali scored three goals, followed by Saroj (2) and Shilpi Dabas (1) against Delhi.

Haryana will now face Chandigarh in the final Monday.

Semifinal results: Haryana 3 (Navneet Kaur 16, 43 and Udita 49) beat Uttar Pradesh 0; Chandigarh 6 (Saroj 6, 55, Anjali 10, 35, 63 and Shilpi Dabas 21) beat Delhi 1 (Own Goal 41).

Mumbai : Maharashtra edged out hosts Mumbai 2-1 in Pool A and entered the semi-finals of the Hockey India Sub-Junior Women's National Championship (West Zone) played here at the Mahindra Stadium Sunday.

Alaknanda Bagadi scored the opening goal for Maharastra in the 40th minute. Mumbai levelled in the 64th minute but the second goal by Alaknanda helped Maharashtra win their last league match. Madhya Pradesh, who topped Pool A, have already qualified for semi-finals.

In Pool B, Rajasthan defeated Chhattisgarh 3-1 while Goa beat Gujarat 2-0.

Both Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are through to the semi-finals to be played Monday.

Results: Pool A: Maharashtra 2 (Alaknanda Bagadi 40, 69) beat Mumbai 1 (Jemimah Rodrigues 64).

Pool B: Rajasthan 3 (Rachna Challan 16, Tanya Singla 21 and Aarti 64) beat Chhattisgarh 1 (Disha Nagvanshi 30); Goa 2 (Maheshwari Haldankar 49, Tannia Dsouza 57) beat Gujarat 0.
