Ranchi, Jul 25: Jharkhand has included hockey star Ashunta Lakra in the five-member official team, led by Deputy Chief Minister Sudesh Mahto, to attend the London Olympics beginning Friday.
Besides Mahto and Lakra, the other members of the team are Principal Secretary of the Sports department Ajay Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary S K Choudhary and CM's Principal Secretary D K Tiwari, according to official sources here.
The team, which left for Delhi during the day, will leave for London tomorrow, the sources said.
Before leaving for London en route national capital, Mahto said he was optimistic that India would definitely bag Olympic medals.
This is the first time that a hockey player was included in a high-level official delegation to Olympics. Her presence will boost the morale of state-mate and ace archer Deepika Kumari, one of the medal prospects.
Lakra, who had said in February that her aim was to lead Indian women's team qualify for the Olympics, was disappointed after the team failed to do so under her captaincy.
