Xavi Hernandez was sacked by Spanish club Barcelona from his position of coach on Friday, May 24. The club put out a statement confirming that Xavi will not continue with the club in the 2024-25 season after a trophy-less season for them.
The former Spaniard midfielder will be in charge of Barca for their last league game against Sevilla on Sunday. Xavi penned a message for the fans saying that it is not easy to leave the club of life but is proud of the team.
"Dear culés, on Sunday my time on the Barça bench will end. It is never easy to leave the club of your life, but I am very proud, after two and a half years at the helm of a dressing room that has been like a second family," Xavi wrote in his social media post.
He thanked the fans for their support and love. "I want to thank the fans for their support and affection, who have always been by my side and have shown me at all times the same esteem as in my time as a footballer. Starting on Sunday I will be another culé in the stands, whether now. at the Estadi Olmpic or in a few months at the Nou Camp. Because before being a player or coach, I am a Barcelona fan and I only want the best for the club of my life, which will always have me at its disposal," he added.
Xavi joined Barca in November 2021 and led the team to the La Liga title in his first full season. "I have worked with a group of fantastic players and a spectacular staff. Thanks to all of them we have been achieving the objectives set, culminating last year with a League and a Super Cup. This season things haven't gone the way we wanted, but we have gone above and beyond and helped a new generation of young La Masia footballers grow who excite all of us Barcelona fans.
"Thank you very much to all. To the fans, the players, the staff, the club employees, the President, the Board of Directors, the sports directors, the media and everyone with whom I have shared a trip throughout these two seasons and a half. I wish the best in the club that is dear to my heart," Xavi concluded.
