World T20: Once a graveyard for spinners, proving to be the heaven now

New Delhi: Few years ago spinner would find reasons not play the shortest form of cricket game T20 as batsmen would vent their frustration on these helpless bowlers but things seem to have changed with spinners leading their team's success in World T20. Amit Mishra getting two successive man of the match awards for his amazing spell against Pakistan and West Indies while Pakistan's offie Zulfiqar Babar played an important role in defeating Australia by 16 runs. On slow and turning wickets of Bangladesh, spinners are being the nightmares to the batsmen in the tournament.In 80s New Zealand did experiment by opening the attack with a spinner with some success but that was in ODI. Now on slow sub-continent pitches, captains do not give a second thought in using spinners to open bowling attack. Indian skipper M. S. Dhoni's experiment to play with 3 spinners did wonders and this is why captain continues his trust in Mishra as well as Ashwin and Jadeja.Amit Mishra was merely a touring visitor with the team in past few foreign tours but he finally showed his spin talent against Pakistan and West Indies where he picked up 2-22 and 2-18 respectively. Ravichandran Ashwin after being sidelined from ODIs showed his magic with an economy rate of just under 6 in his eight overs in two matches.Ravindra Jadeja, on the other hand, was reasonable against Pakistan but he conceded 48 runs in his four over and picked up just one wicket against West Indies.Pakistan's spin magician Saeed Ajmal and their skipper Mohammad Hafeez are also doing a great job in spin department. Hafeez also got the bowling attack start against Australia with Babar who didn't played earlier against India. Caribbean mystery bowler Sunil Narine with Samuel Badree forms a deadly combination for the batsmen in defending their title. Both were reasonable against India and Bangladesh. Badree grabbed 4 wickets for 15 while Narine could managed to get only one wicket in his four overs giving away 17 runs against Bangladesh.Spinners form the majority of the bowlers in World T20 yet the pacers are the first choice of every captain for the death overs.Slow bowlers know the right line and length to bowl to the batsmen in the World T20 which is getting them regular success.
