New Delhi: At a time when Afghanistan were playing their debut World Cup match against Bangladesh, US Embassy in Kabul seems to get excited when they congratulated the national side for the victory just half-way through the Bangladesh innings.
The tweet congratulated the Afghan national team for notching a win over their opponents. The match was only about 10 overs old at the time, with Bangladesh batting first against their lowly-rated opponents.
The positive message was eventually retweeted more than 300 times and favourited more than 100 times.
Those at the embassy saw the funny side of their error, sending another tweet about 40 minutes later acknowledging their "premature posting" but maintaining their excitement about Afghanistan's debut at a major International Cricket Council tournament.
The Afghans made their World Cup bow in Canberra against the Test-status South Asians, completing another step in their fairytale rags-to-riches story.
After the Asia Cup and World T20 last year, they enjoy a huge fan following and are adored by cricket supporters across the globe.
Though their debut was spoiled by the Bangla tigers as they were crushed by 105 runs after being bowled out for 162 while chasing 267 in Group A game.
