Mumbai: Indian hockey captain Sardar Singh today wished the national cricket team the very best in the World Cup beginning in Australia and New Zealand from Saturday.

"As the most coveted cricket tournament- the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is all set to kick off, I and the entire Indian hockey team would like to extend our heartiest wishes to the boys in blue," Sardar said.

"I hope they play in the best spirit of the game and fight hard to bring back the World Cup. I believe this team has the potential to defend its title and bring joy to a billion hearts. I wish the Indian team the very best of luck for the World Cup," he said in a statement.

Defending champions India play their opening match against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval on February 15.
