Sydney: Already out of the World Cup, England on Wednesday suffered further blows with all-rounders Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali being ruled out due to injury for their final and inconsequential Pool A encounter against Afghanistan on March 13.

Both the players suffered injuries during their clash against Bangladesh on Monday.

According to the England and Wales Cricket Board, Ali sustained a side strain while bowling his off-breaks during the Bangladesh encounter, whereas Woakes experienced discomfort in his left foot while batting later in the match.

Later on, scans revealed complications that have ruled the duo out of England's final group stage match. The game against Afghanistan in Sydney has no bearing on the competition with both teams already being eliminated.

England were knocked out of the One-Day International (ODI) quadrennial tournament after losing to Bangladesh on Monday, their fourth defeat in five matches.

James Tredwell and Ravi Bopara who are yet to play may get a look-in. Friday's clash at the Sydney Cricket Ground will see England and Afghanistan face-off in an ODI for the first time.
