Dunedin, New Zealand: Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl first against Scotland in their Cricket World Cup match on Thursday in cool temperatures and mostly sunny skies at University Oval.

"It's a fresh wicket and we want to put pressure on Scotland early ... we have a good fast bowling attack, they've trained hard," said Afghan captain Mohammad Nabi.

One of the teams should post a first-ever World Cup win in Thursday's match, the 17th of this year's tournament.

Afghanistan is playing at its first World Cup, still-winless Scotland at its third and both teams have lost their first two matches and sit at the bottom of Pool A.
