Social media platform Twitter on Thursday began removing the legacy Blue tickmark from users' profiles. Famous cricket personalities including Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Sachin Tendulkar among others have lost their checkmarks on the social media platform. Meanwhile, a few cricket stars have their blue checkmarks intact.

Twitter had earlier announced a paid subscription 'Twitter Blue' and under that, the platform began removing the legacy checkmarks from users' profiles. In November Twitter boss Elon Musk said that the platform will start charging USD 8 per month for the verification status. Several sports stars have lost their verification status. The list also includes the likes of Sanju Samson, Chris Gayle, David Warner, Rishabh Pant, Dale Steyn, Virender Sehwag, and Glenn Maxwell, among others. Cricket bodies such as BCCI and ICC also do not have their verification status now.

Notably, a few cricket stars have their Blue tick intact. Ravi Ashwin, Suresh Raina, AB de Villiers, and Kevin Pietersen are among the sports stars, who have their blue mark intact. Their profile shows that these cricketers have paid for Twitter Blue. Notably, after the removal of the verification status of several sports personalities, users of the social media platform started reacting.

The official Twitter Verified account tweeted on Wednesday that it will be removing the legacy verified checkmarks. "Tomorrow, 4/20, we are removing legacy verified checkmarks," it wrote. The Twitter Blue subscription is available for Rs 650 per month on the web and Rs 900 per month on mobile devices.

Twitter had 300,000 verified users under its original blue-tick status, many of them being journalists, athletes, and public figures. The cost to keep the ticks range from USD 8 per month for web users to a beginning price of USD 1,000 monthly to an organisation, plus USD 50 per month for each affiliate or company employee. Twitter does not verify the individual accounts, as was the case with the previous blue check doled out during the platform's pre-Musk administration.
