Virat Kohli's poor run of form continued after he failed to impress on his return to red-ball cricket. The veteran batter scored just 23 runs in two innings of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai but managed to register a huge milestone during the second innings.
The 35-year-old Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar another record as he became the fastest cricketer to reach 12,000 runs at home in international cricket. Kohli took only 243 innings, 24 less than the former captain, to reach this historic milestone on Friday.

Virat has struggled for consistency across formats in 2024 but has been breaking records and settling new milestones by each innings. He is now closing on reaching 27,000 international runs and 9,000 Test runs which he might achieve in the second match in Kanpur starting on September 27.
Meanwhile, Kohli's poor run in red-ball cricket continued as he suffered an unfortunate LBW dismissal in the second innings at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. Surprisingly, Kohli opted not to take a DRS call which later showed a clear spike in replay.
Kohli was looking for good rhythm for a much-needed big innings as he scored 17 runs off 37 balls with the help of two fours. India also lost captain Rohit Sharma and in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the second innings but Shubman Gill stayed strong to take India's total to 81 for 3 at the end of Day 2's play in Chennai.
India stay ahead in the first Test after bowlers dominated Day 2 to bowl out the travelling side to 149 in the first innings. India will enter a crucial Day 3 with a stunning 308-run lead and with seven wickets in hands in their second innings.
