United States of America announced their team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday. Tournament hosts included the former New Zealand star cricketer Corey Anderson in the team but the former India U19 captain Unmukt Chand failed to find a place in the 15-member squad for the mega tournament starting on June 1.
Corey Anderson, who was part of New Zealand's side which finished as runner-up in the 2015 World Cup, recently guided the USA to a dominant win over Canada. Corey's inclusion boosts the United States' chances in the World Cup who take on the likes of India and Pakistan in Group A fixtures.
The experienced wicketkeeper batter Monal Patel continues to lead the team with Aaron Jones being his deputy. Star pacer Ali Khan makes his return to the team after missing the Canada series due to a hamstring injury. Pakistan-origin batter Shayan Jahangir also returned to the team with Gajanand Singh and Usman Rafiq missing the World Cup squad. Gajanand only finds a place among reserves alongside Juanoy Drysdale and Yasir Mohammad.
Meanwhile, the former Indian U19 cricketer Saurabh Nethralvakar also finds a place in the USA's squad for the World Cup. The experienced left-arm pacer has taken 24 wickets in 24 T20I innings and remains a key bowler in ODIs with 73 wickets for the USA.
The USA will kick off their World Cup campaign with an opening clash against neighbours Canada in Dallas on June 1 and face title favourites Indian team in New York on June 12.
