India's rising star Tilak Varma has been selected for India's squad for Asia Cup 2023. The Indian Cricket team has been confirmed after a much delay in a press conference in Delhi on Monday. The team will be led by Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya will be his deputy as Jasprit Bumrah misses out on the vice-captain's post. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been picked and Suryakumar Yadav also features in the squad.
However, another big update coming in from the squad is the selection of Tilak Varma in the team. Varma made a brilliant debut for India in the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies, where he showed power with maturity. He was also picked for the Ireland squad and his entry into the team provides a great option to the team.
Meanwhile Twitter users had different types of reactions over Varma's inclusion. Some hailed the move, while some questioned the development. Here are some reactions.
Notably, several players made a return to the team. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are finally back, while Jasprit Bumrah also makes a return to ODIs. Rahul is still not 100% as he has got a niggle but that is not on his original thigh injury which kept him out, Ajit Agarkar confirmed in the press conference. Yuzvendra Chahal is not in the team. "We couldn't get Chahal in as we had only 17 slots. Doors are not closed for anyone including Ravi Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar for the World Cup," Sharma said on Chahal.
"Terrific performer but we had to look at the balance of the team. To fit in two wrist spinners was difficult. We can fit only one wrist spinner. It's unfortunate for one to miss out and right now, Kuldeep is a bit ahead," Agarkar said.
