The Asia Cup, a battle ground for arch rivals India-Pakistan.

New Delhi: The Old Indo –Pak cricketing war again be waged when they clash in Asia Cup at Sher e Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday . The last time India- Pakistan face off in Asia Cup was in 2012-13 which India won by six wickets.India TV looks back at Asia Cup and see how these two teams performed against each other and who were the heroes. The first time both the teams met was in 1984. The hero of the match was Surender Khanna. Pakistan had four seamers in Sarfraz Nawaz, Azeem Hafeez, Shahid Mahboob and Mudassar Nazar and just one spinner in Abdul Qadir but Khanna made a 72-ball 56 as India finished at 188 for four in 46 overs after batting first. Pakistan were bowled out for 134, thanks to some fine bowling by Roger Binny who took three wickets. In 1988 again the two teams faced each other for the second time in Asia cup at Dhaka Pakistan was bowled out for mere 142 runs. The hero of the match was Arshad Ayub who in nine overs took five Pakistani batsmen by giving away only 21 runs. In 1995 Pakistan scored 269 runs. In reply Team India was bundled out for a paltry 169 runs. It was Aaqib Javed who in nine overs took five wickets by giving only 19 runs. In 2004 encounter in Premadasa Stadium at Colombo Pakistan won the match by 59 runs when Pakistan scored 300 runs with a big century coming from Shoaib Malik scoring a 143 runs and team India bundled out for 241 runs. In a group match that was held in Karachi India won the match by making a mockery of Pakistan's total of 299 runs. The main contributors from the Indian team was Virender Sehwag who scored 119 runs and a quick fire 84 from Suresh Raina which helped team India to reach the target with six wickets in hand and also having 47 balls to spare. In 2008 Asia Cup Super four encounter the teams had to play against one other twice. In this match India posed a target of 309 runs with major contributions coming from MS dhoni and Virender Sehwag. But It was Younis Khan who played a wonderful innings of 123 not out to take his team to the victory. In 2010 when the two teams had a face off was in Dambulla in Sri Lanka.This match lived upto its expectations of being a pot boiler in which Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir played a match winning knock of 83 runs. India won the match by overhauling the score of 267 runs with only one ball left. In Asia cup 2012 it was Team India who had defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets. The hero of the match was present Indian skipper Virat kohli who thrashed Pakistani bowlers all over the park to score his individual ODI best of 183 runs and helping the Indian team to pose an imposing total of 329 runs before Pakistan.
