IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad have parted ways with West Indies Legend and head coach Brian Lara after a poor season in 2023. The franchise had a two-year association with Lara, which now comes to an end. Moreover, New Zealand Legend and former RCB player Daniel Vettori as the new head coach of the team.
"As our 2-year association with Brian Lara comes to an end, we bid adieu to him. Thank you for the contributions to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours," SRH wrote in a post thanking Lara.
Former RCB player and coach Vettori gets new role
Meanwhile, former RCB player and former coach of the Bangalore side Daniel Vettori has been named as coach of the team. He was the head coach of RCB from 2014 to 2018 and was also the assistant coach of the Australia men's team recently. Notably, this means SRH will have four head coaches in six different seasons. Tom Moody was at the helm of SRH support staff in 2019 and 2022. Trevor Bayliss was the head coach in 2020 and 2021, and Lara in 2023. Vettori now becomes the fourth different head coach of the orange army. Vettori is currently the head coach of Birmingham Phoenix in the men's hundred.
SRH suffer poor run in IPL
Meanwhile, SRH are having a poor run in the Indian cash-rich league. The side has not made it to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons now. They last reached the top four in 2020. From IPL 2021, SRH have lost 29 matches and have only 13. They also had a move on from Kane Williamson, who led them to IPL 2018 final. Williamson was not retained ahead of IPL 2023 with SRH going for Aiden Markram as the new skipper.
