LEEDS, England : Sri Lanka took control of the second test after Dhammika Prasad claimed four wickets on day four to reduce England to 57-5 on Monday, needing an unlikely 293 more runs to win at Headingley.
Sri Lanka was earlier dismissed for 457, setting England an imposing total of 350.
England reached 39-0 when captain Alastair Cook (16) cut Prasad's delivery into his middle stump.
Prasad dismissed Gary Ballance (0) lbw with the next delivery and was on a hat trick but Ian Bell played a high ball off for a single.
Prasad hadn't finished. Sam Robson (24) edged him to Jayawardene at second slip and Prasad knocked out Bell's off stump for eight. Nightwatchman Liam Plunkett (0) fell to Rangana Herath while unwisely trying to score off the last ball.
