Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined Rs 24 lakhs of his match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 59th match of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 season.

While Gill has been fined Rs 24 lakhs, the other members of Gujarat Titans' playing XI, including the Impact Player have each been individually fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees.

"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined INR 24 lakh. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," the BCCI/IPL statement read.

Notably, this is Shubman and Gujarat Titans' second offence relating to slow over-rate. Coincidentally, both offences have come in games against Chennai Super Kings with the only difference being the outcome. Shubman was fined Rs 12 lakhs for a slow over-rate offence for the first time in the season after a 63-run loss at the hands of Chennai Super Kings in the seventh game.

Gujarat have two games left in the season and Gill can't afford an over-rate offence in their upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday, May 13 as it will rule him out of his side's final game of the season.

Meanwhile, Gill had a game to cherish at home on Friday as the Titans captain scored a match-winning century and led his side from the front against the five-time IPL champions. He put up a 210-run stand along with Sai Sudharsan (103 runs off 51 balls) for the opening wicket and laid the foundation for Titans' victory.
