Shreyas Iyer creates historic record in 1st Test vs BAN; becomes 1st Indian to achieve feat

Shreyas Iyer smashed a brilliant 82 not out vs Bangladesh on the first day of the 1st Test. He played 169 deliveries and hit 10 boundaries. 

The moment Shreyas Iyer reached 10-run mark, he created a unique record for himself. Iyer became the 1st Indian cricketer in the history of Test cricket to reach double-digit mark in 10 consecutive innings. 

Yes, you read that right. 

A Little Background

Iyer has been on fire in ODIs for sometime now. In 35 ODI innings played for India, Iyer is averaging a massive 48.03, with two 100s and 14 50s to his name. As far as Test cricket is concerned, Iyer has accumulated 504 runs 10 innings witj four 50s and a 100 to his name. 

Rishabh Pant Back In Test Cricket

Not only Shreyas Iyer, but Rishabh Pant too created two new records. Pant, following his innings vs Bangladesh, completed the milestone of 4000 runs in international cricket. In Test cricket, Pant now has 2169 runs in 54 innings with 10 fifties and 5 hundreds to his name. He averages 43.48 at a strike rate of 73.10. 

He also became the second fasted Indian and 3rd player overall to hit fastest 50 sixes in Test cricket.

IND vs BAN, 1st Test, Day 1 - Report

Powered by Cheteshwar Pujara's 90, Rishabh Pant's quickfire 46  and Shreyas Iyer's 82*,  India finished Day 1 of the first Test vs Bangladesh with 278 runs on board at the loss of six wickets. 

Pujara (90) missed out on a century but Iyer remained on course for his hundred as he was unbeaten on 82. Rishabh Pant's counterattacking 45-ball 46 helped India stabilise the innings following early blows. Axar Patel (13) was dismissed on the final ball of the day.

For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam (3/84) made the most impact with three wickets for 81 runs, while Khaled Ahmed (1/26) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2/71) were also among wickets.

India lost stand-in skipper KL Rahul (22), Shubman Gill (20) and Virat Kohli (1) in the morning session after opting to bat.

India need to win both matches of the series to stay alive in the race for the World Test Championship final.

The pitch is already turning square with a lot of bounce, and the Indian spinners would be licking their fingers to have a go at the Bangladeshi batters. It would be interesting to see if Bangladesh can make short work of India tomorrow and come out to bat early.
