Melbourne, Dec 28: Cricket Australia says vice-captain Shane Watson has a left calf injury and may not be fit to bowl again in the ongoing second test against Sri Lanka.
Team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said late Thursday that Watson sustained the injury while bowling on the first day of the test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday.
Watson made 83 Thursday in a 194-run fourth-wicket partnership with captain Michael Clarke, who added 106.
Kountouris said Watson is likely to field Friday, but "whether he bowls in the second innings will be determined closer to the bowling innings."
He said the allrounder's availability for the third test at Sydney starting Jan. 3 will be made after the current match.
Mitchell Johnson resumes at 73 Friday, looking to stretch Australia's lead beyond 300 runs.
