London, Jul 9: Australia will be without opening batsman Shane Watson and fast bowler Brett Lee for the final one-day international against England on Wednesday, with both players returning home for treatment on calf injuries.
Cricket Australia announced the move on Monday, two days after the players were hurt during the eight-wicket loss to England in the fourth match at Durham.
“Shane Watson and Brett Lee have calf strains,” team doctor John Orchard said. “Shane to the left and Brett to the right calf—sustained during the fourth ODI against England. At this stage, they are anticipated to be available for consideration for selection for the ICC World Twenty20” in Sri Lanka from Sept. 18 to Oct. 7.
England holds an unassailable 3-0 lead over Australia. The final game is in Manchester.
