New Delhi: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has become only the third player in history to take 10 wickets and score a century in a Test match.
His 137 and match figures of 10-124 against Zimbabwe saw him follow in the footsteps of Ian Botham and Imran Khan.
Bangladesh won the second Test in Khulna by 162 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The former Worcestershire overseas player, 27, has scored more than 2,000 Test match runs and taken 139 wickets.
Shakib, who finished with figures of 10/124 to go with his knock of 137 in the first innings, joined legends, Ian Botham and Imran Khan as the only cricketers to have scored a century and picked up a 10-wicket haul in the same match. The Bangladesh all-rounder said he was pleased with his efforts and hoped to continue the good work.
"I knew about it (the record). One of the journalists had told me a couple of days before about it. I was lucky to reach the milestone. Thanks to almighty for that. Hopefully, I will continue the good work."
Shakib said it was an all-round effort from his side and praised his team-mates for their contributions. "I thought it was a good team effort. The batsmen did well, especially Mahmudullah and Hom in the second innings. Taijul Islam (6 wickets) did his part and I did mine."
"It was not an easy track. In the last session, the ball was doing a bit. I was putting the ball in the right areas and that worked. It is a good feeling to win, especially in Test matches, which we don't usually do well. Hopefully, we will continue our form," he added.
Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim credited his players for their good showing while calling Shakib a special player. "We knew it was not going to be easy but credit goes to all the boys. Shakib is a special player and he deserves a mention. There has been good improvement in the batting. Compared to the previous match, we did well. Mominul, Mahmudullah, Tamim, all did well."
"The fielding needs to improve. Catches win matches. So hopefully, we will work on that. Shakib is a special player, special with the bat and the ball. All the guys are inspired by him. We really want to win 3-0. Thanks to the crowd as well, they have been wonderful," Rahim added.
