New Delhi: Sachin Tendulkar had predicted three years ago that one day Rohit Sharma will stand in the same league where he stands as far as hitting a double ton in ODI is concerned.
Sachin Tendulkar created history by becoming the first person to slam a double ton in ODIs at Gwalior in 2010 against South Africa. He smashed 200 not out from 147 deliveries, with 25 fours and three sixes.
On Saturday Rohit Sharma became the third player to score double century 200, when he achieved the feat against Australia in the seventh One-Day International (ODI) match of the series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
When Sachin was asked who else can hit a double ton from India after he achieved the feat, he said Rohit Sharma has the ability and capability to score double ton ODI.
Its interesting to note when Sachin mentioned Rohit, he was still struggling to find a place in India team. Another interesting fact is tha it was Sachin who encouraged Rohit to concentrate on his batting rather than on bowling.
Before taking up batting seriously, Rohit used to be a bowler.
Rohit became the third batsman after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to achieve the feat.
During the course of the innings, he also surpassed the record of the highest number of sixes slammed in an innings by an Indian. Mahendra Singh Dhoni earlier held the record of 10 sixes.
Having been inconsistent throughout his five-year international career, Rohit has finally lived upto his potential as he also crossed the 1,000-run mark in 2013.
