Indian captain Rohit Sharma did not come out on the field on day 3 of the 5th Test after India's batting in the first innings came to an end. The Men in Blue were bowled out for 477 and added only four runs to their overnight total of 475.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Rohit's absence from the field. "UPDATE: Captain Rohit Sharma has not taken the field on Day 3 due to a stiff back," BCCI wrote in a statement on social media. Notably, in Rohit's absence, the team's vice captain Jasprit Bumrah is leading the Indian team on the field.

India made a total of 477 runs and were cleaned up quickly on the third day. James Anderson got to his 700th Test scalp when he removed Kuldeep Yadav caught behind. Shoab Bashir then removed the last Indian batter Bumrah to wrap up the hosts, who were looking for a 500-run total.

Captain Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant century in the first innings, his second overall in the series. He made 103 off 162 balls before Ben Stokes got the Indian skipper on his first ball since the Ashes 2023. Rohit and Shubman Gill partnered for 171 runs for the second wicket. There was no update on Rohit after the second day.

Rohit has now shown his form with the bat for the second time in the series as there was a lot of talk about his batting. He made 131 in the third Test in Rajkot and now scored 103. Rohit has been amassing numerous centuries since turning 30. The century in Dharamsala is his 35th in International cricket after turning 30, which is the joint-most for an Indian alongside Sachin Tendulkar.

Rohit has also led by example in the series. His bowling changes and field placements have been praised by many cricket pundits. The fans wait for more updates on the Indian skipper.
