Reasons why Champions League T20 is not as popular as IPL...?

New Delhi:  The sixth edition of Champions League T20, popularly known as CLT20, will begin in Raipur. The tournament was modeled upon UEFA's Champions League where all the top footballing clubs from different countries participate. The

Non –participation of Indian cricketers in other teams apart from IPL franchise.

Prolific Indian players like Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan , Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane will be missing this year's CLT20 because their team failed to finish in the top four of IPL 2014. Their participation in other teams could have provided a much needed  boost if BCCI had allowed them to take part in foreign teams . These step may have proved to be fruitful because then Indian cricket fans would have cheered for foreign teams as well.

The other reason,  probably the most important, is unlike UEFA's champions league where football lovers keep an eye even on foreign clubs, cricket lovers interest just confine to their countries clubs resulting in alien faces emerging in CLT20 event.

If local CLT20 matches are telecast live or given a much wider coverage   cricket fans may choose their heros from other country too.

However if Champions League is to become a world wide sensation, the governing body must rotate the venue every year. So far five editions have been played, three in India and two in South Africa. India would be its fourth, edition here on its soil. England, New Zealand, Australia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh are yet to host the CLT20.
