Islamabad:  The Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed former test captain and wicketkeeper Rashid Latif as the new chief selector.

The PCB says in a statement Latif will also impart training and conduct lectures on anti-corruption issues.

Latif met with PCB chief Najam Sethi in Lahore on Wednesday and accepted the offer to become chief selector from April 1.

He played 37 tests and 166 one-day internationals from 1992-2003, and was vocal against match-fixing.

Latif said he will "endeavor to build a strong team keeping in view the World Cup in 2015."

Sethi said he keenly followed Latif's forthright views on cricket, and "I trust he will be able to bring about positive change in our cricket."
