The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi has informed that the PCB has restored Haris Rauf's central contract after the fast bowler was penalised for making himself unavailable for Pakistan's three-match Test tour of Australia recently.
Naqvi hailed Rauf as a "star player for Pakistan" and called the entire ordeal that lead to his contract termination a misunderstanding.
"I received a letter from Haris Rauf who made his case very nicely. There was a misunderstanding, and an incorrect decision was taken. His contract has been restored. I was worried about him because he's injured, and there were concerns about who would facilitate his treatment. We will now have insurance cover that because he's our star player, and it's important to take care of him," Naqvi told reporters during a press conference in Lahore on Sunday (March 24).
In another major development, the board has removed the position of chairman of selectors and has now given equal power to all seven selection committee members. The decision witnesses the inclusion of the captain, head coach and the data analyst of the senior team.
The PCB senior men's selection committee comprises Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Yousuf, Wahab Riaz, the national captain, the head coach (yet to be appointed) and the data analyst Hassan Cheema.
"What's different about this committee is that there will be no chairman of the selection committee, with every member having equal power," Naqvi informed. "They will make a majority decision based around debate and argument to reach satisfactory conclusions. We have looked at every single member of this committee to assess their merits and we are confident that we've made the right choices. The chairman should not have any say in the selection of players."
Pakistan's next assignment is a five-match T20I series at home against New Zealand. The series will be played between 18 to 27 April.
