Melbourne, Australia, Jul 18: Paceman James Pattinson and offspinner Nathan Lyon have been left out of Australia's 30-man preliminary squad for the World Twenty20 tournament in Sri Lanka.
Chairman of selectors John Inverarity said in February that Lyon was a strong contender for the T20 tournament.
Selectors also found no place Wednesday for Pattinson, whose impact in Twenty20 matches has not matched his test record of 26 wickets in five matches.
Left-arm fast bowler Dirk Nannes, a 36-year-old former Dutch international who led all wicket takers with 14 at the 2010 tournament, was also named to the Australian squad.
The tournament starts in Sri Lanka on Sept. 18. Australia, runners-up in 2010 to England in Barbados, will name its final squad of 15 by Aug. 18.
