Islamabad, Apr 12: Pakistan's hunt for fresh, young and talented fast bowlers is to be launched Saturday in different cities of the country, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

PCB officials told Xinhua Thursday that the 'King of Speed' programme was devised to search for fast bowlers to overcome the current shortage of quality quick bowlers in the team.

A group of PCB officials, comprising senior cricketers and analysts, will seek young fast bowlers who can deliver the ball with a minimum speed of 145 km (90 miles) per hour.

The young bowler who achieves the fastest speed above 145 kph will be given a grand prize of $10,000.

The nine-day talent hunt programme will conclude April 21.

All the selected fast bowlers will also qualify for a special training in a camp under the supervision of the legendary left-arm bowler Wasim Akram.

Pakistani pace-men including Sarfraz Nawaz, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar who were equipped with special tricks of swing, late-swing, reverse-swing and yorker, ruled the cricket world during 1970s, 1980s, 1990 and 2000s.

PCB chief selector Iqbal Qasim told media persons last month that they were planning to search out new talent while focusing on the mega events in future, especially for this year's eight-nation Champions Trophy to be held in England from June 6 to 23.
