PAK vs ENG 1st Test Highlights: Crawley, Root lead England's strong reply to Pakistan's 556

England have finished the day at 96/1 after 20 overs. Crawley is unbeaten at 64 and Root is batting on 32. An exciting Day 3 is in the offing with England expected to go on an all-out attack if they don't lose a wicket early.

Zak Crawley has reached his half-century. England have shown intent scoring runs at 5 runs an over. They are 89/1 in the 19th over.

Joe Root has become the first batter ever to complete 5000 runs in World Test Championship (WTC) history!! Wow!! That is some stat! He has been supremely consistent for England in last three years. A big knock is in the offing for him.

50 is up for England now. Crawley has picked up the pace against Abrar, hitting him for 11 runs in the spinner's first over. 

After a few quiet overs, Crawley has smashed a couple of fours off Shaheen to collect eight from the over.

Wow!! What a catch! Aamer Jamal has shined in the very first over with his fielding. Naseem Shah strikes off the second ball, sends back England skipper Ollie Pope for a duck. England 4/1

A blow for England as they come out to bat. Ben Duckett got injured while taking the catch to dismiss Abrar Ahmed. The ball possibly hit on his thumb. Ollie Pope has come out to open the innings with Zak Crawley. 25 overs left in the day!

This is the 4th time three Pakistan batters have scored a hundred against England in the same innings

Finally!! Pakistan didn't declare and they have been bowled out for 556. Joe Root bowled a bouncer and Abrar was caught at slips by Ben Duckett.

Only Pakistan can explain this approach. Salman's century came 10 mins ago. But still no declaration!! Strange!

Few things are really confusing!! Shaheen Afridi is playing maiden overs. Pakistan are still not declaring the innings. Salman Ali Agha is not going all out for his century. What is going on? Even England players will be wondering now. 525/8 are Pakistan

Salman Agha is batting on 79 as Pakistan went into tea while still playing. 515 runs are on the board but there are no signs of declaration. Salman Agha's century or wicket, whichever is earlier might be the declaration point for Pakistan.

Pakistan have reached the 500-run mark and surprisingly, they have still not declared. What's going on? They don't want a result in this Test? Are they giving Salman Ali Agha a chance to score his century?

Brydon Carse has gotten his second wicket as Aamer Jamal has been trapped in front of the wickets. It seemed like the delivery might have gone over but it was just kissing and it stayed umpire's call.

Saud Shakeel is GONE!! Shoaib Bashir has struck for England finally and Pakistan have lost their 7th wicket. Shakeel was batting well and deserved a century. But he is OUT for 82. Salman might up the ante now!

Pakistan have reached 450 and the intentions of Salman Ali Agha clearly indicate that the declaration is coming soon. May be 500 is the mark. Let's see

Chris Woakes has erred in getting the ball back in field of play as his right foot was just touching the ground outside the boundary when he took the catch on rebound having thrown up in the air to recover his balance and it's a six for Salman Agha. Agha has survived and seems like he has been sent in with a clear message to attack since lunch.

Pakistan have crossed the 400-run mark soon after lunch with Salman Ali Agha making his intentions clear. Two fours in the first over of second session and Pakistan seem to be going for the 500-run mark now. They are 405/6.

Saud Shakeel is unbeaten on 67 and even though Pakistan have lost a couple of wickets, the vice-captain has kept his side on course of a huge total. Pakistan are 397/6 at tea and would want to add at least 70-80 more runs after the lunch break.

Mohammad Rizwan is gone for a 12-ball duck and England are back in this game. Jack Leach dismissed him and Pakistan are now 393/6. They have been pretty slow in run-scoring today strangely after batting so well yesterday. Can they cross the 500-run mark? Saud Shakeel is going strong and will have to play well alongside Salman Ali Agha.

Pacer Brydon Carse on his debut has finally struck and gotten Naseem Shah as his maiden Test wicket. The plan of getting Naseem caught in the leg slips worked to perfection and Carse got Naseem edging straight to the fielder. Pakistan have lost half their side now.

Saud Shakeel and Naseem Shah have quietly notched up a 50-run partnership as Pakistan batters continue to frustrate England. Naseem after a cautious start, has played a couple of good shots and is now really looking good in the middle.

The start has been slow for both Saud Shakeel and Naseem Shah on the second morning. England pacers and spinners haven't gotten much from the surface and Shakeel has gotten to his fifty. Can he go big and frustrate England further?

Pakistan - 363/4 (99 overs)

Saud Shakeel and Naseem Shah have gotten through the first half an hour. Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes have bowled probing lines but nothing successful yet. England need wickets and in cluster.

Naseem Shah and Saud Shakeel are in the middle as Pakistan look to start well on the second morning. The ball is newish and Shakeel and Naseem will have to be just a bit cautious.

Aamir Sohail on air reckons that the cracks are widening but the pacers will continue to have glum faces as they did on Day 1 despite some grass on the surface. It will be a good day for the batters yet again but the spinners are likely to come into the game from tea onwards.

It is still 34 degrees in Multan, however, there is a gentle breeze blowing across the ground and there is a forecast of a late little shower but that's for later. The start will be on time and the conditions look good for batting once again. 

Yes, there is inexperience barring Chris Woakes, and none of the pacers who were the stars in the 2022 series are here in Pakistan for England this time around, but the current lot is not that bad as they showed in England but they just looked toothless. Shan and Shafique had no problems in negotiating and managing these bowlers for the longest before they struck back with a few wickets in the final session. The ball is still newish and England would hope to get a couple of early on the second morning to not let Pakistan run away with the game.

If the Bangladesh series was any indication, the Pakistan team and their fans can't relax after a good first day as in both those games, they floundered in the latter stages and hence, the hosts will be keen to seal the deal once and for all given, they are at the top currently and will try to bat England out of the game.
