Cricket fans on both sides of the border are eagerly awaiting the proposed series between India and Pakistan next month.

But there is one final hurdle to be cleared before the series can take place.

The Indian government is yet to approve the series that is tentatively scheduled to be held in the neutral venue of Sri Lanka.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup clarified in a tweet that the matter was still under consideration by the government.

The Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has already given the green signal for the series.

IPL Chairman and BCCI official Rajeev Shukla revealed the details of the proposed series yesterday and expressed the hope that it would be cleared by the Indian government.

"India-Pakistan series will happen tentatively from December 15 in Sri Lanka," Shukla said.

"I am optimistic that the government will give the go-ahead to us. Both the parties (Boards) have agreed for Sri Lanka as a venue. The whole idea is to resume cricket between the two countries," he added.
