India registered a huge 86-run win in the second T20I to seal the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh on Wednesday. India recorded their highest-ever T20I total of 221 against Bangladesh after quick fifties from Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh, and then bowlers shone to restrict Bangladesh to 135 for 9, resulting in India's biggest win by a margin of runs against Bangladesh.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, 21, top-scored with 74 runs off 34 balls and Rinku Singh added 53 runs off 29 balls as India posted their first-ever 200-plus total against Bangladesh in T20Is. Nitish also shone his bowling skills with two wickets and Varun Chakravarthy claimed two for 19 to power India to a 2-0 series win at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto elected to bowl first after winning the toss and brought in the speedster Tanzim Sakib for Shoriful Islam in their playing XI. India stayed unchanged from their impressive win in the first game in Gwalior.
Shanto's decision to bowl first proved successful for the travelling side with pacers dominating the powerplay overs with three big wickets. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma struggled to convert their good start into big innings while captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for just 8 runs by Mustafizur Rahman.
Nitish Reddy was promoted to bat at no.4 and Rinku Singh walked in ahead of Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag in a surprise and bold decision by the Indian management. The duo proved their promotion right with a match-defining 108-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Nitish registered his maiden T20I fifty and top-scored with 74 runs off 34 balls with the help of four fours and seven sixes. Rinku ended his poor run of form with his first fifty in his last ten overall games. Hardik Pandya also contributed by smashing 32 runs off 19 balls as India registered a huge total.
Bangladesh also started positively with Parvez Emom smashing Arshdeep Singh for three fours in the opening over. But Indian bowlers were quick to take control with Arshdeep removing Emom in the third over. Shanto and Litton Das were also dismissed in powerplay after showing some signs of aggressive cricket at the start.
Indian bowlers kept the momentum by their side with regular wickets as Bangladesh struggled to find any rhythm to make a comeback. The veteran Mahmudullah scored a brilliant 41 runs off 39 balls to help Bangladesh avoid an all-out.
Nitish made a late impact with two wickets, including Mahmudullah's, to finish his spell with 2 for 23 figures and also claimed the Player of the Match award for his all-round display
