Pallekele (Sri Lanka), Nov 4: Captain Ross Taylor hit two sixes and seven boundaries in his 72 runs off 62 deliveries to lift New Zealand from a slow start to a competitive 250 for six in the second one-day international against Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Taylor put on a key 91-run partnership for the fourth wicket with James Franklin (35 not out) building on a solid foundation provided by BJ Watling (55) and Rob Nicol (46) at Pallekele International Stadium.
The Kiwis got off to a slow start after Taylor won the toss and elected to bat as disciplined Sri Lanka bowlers limited the tourists to fewer than four runs per over until the 38th over of the innings.
Fast bowler Lasith Malinga took two wickets for 39 runs for Sri Lanka.
