MUMBAI ARE WPL 2023 CHAMPIONS!!
And Mumbai have won the WPL 2023! They are the champions of the first-ever WPL. Nat Sciver has held her nerves as she smashes 60 runs in 55 balls to guide her team home in a tricky run chase. But this came down the wire as Delhi pushed them to limits. The Capitals got the early wickets and put Mumbai under pump. But Kaur and Sciver bailed the team out of trouble as they anchored the chase. Kaur got run out at a crucial moment which brought game to life once again. But Sciver kept things in check. She took the team over the line in the final over. My God! That was a serious game. What a tournament we witnessed. It was pleasure bringing this to you. Hope to see women cricket grow more. For now, I Varun Malik sign off on behalf of the enitre team of India TV Sports. Thanks for joining us in this journey.

Kaur, Sciver displaying class
Kaur and Sciver are playing a well calculated knock as they are in no hurry and are freeing their hands. The required rate is still under 8 with a little over than 7 overs remain. This match is sitting on the knife edge.

March 26, 2023 10:01 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
81 needed off 60
It's getting interesting. Mumbai are beginning to free their hands and Capitals are fighting for each and every run. 81 are needed off 60 and the batters would be knowing it can be done if they take it deep.

Time out
Here's the first time out. Gosh!! This match is surely far from over and is now titling a bit in Delhi's favour. Lanning and company are asking some tough questions as Mumbai batters are not able to free themselves. Kaur and Nat Sciver in middle and MI ar 36/2 after 8.

March 26, 2023 9:45 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Mumbai 27/2 after 6
Ohh, this is a delicate time in the final. Mumbai are in a bit of trouble too as not many runs have come. Harmanpreet and Nat Sciver are in the middle but they are not able to get going. The required rate is inching towards 8.

March 26, 2023 9:36 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Matthews caught out
Jess Jonassen strikes and its the second opener of Mumbai, who goes back. This was a fuller length ball and Matthews did not middle it. Just pushed it towards mid-on for a soft dismissal. Delhi can sense something here. Harmanpreet now comes in.

And there's the first wicket. Radha has got the much-needed wicket as Yastika has been caught at the boundary on the leg side. Mumbai are 1 down. Here comes Mumbai's star- Nat Sciver. Delhi need to get her quickly.

Capitals get 131
Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav have brought the Capitals out of the dust. 52 run stand in 24 balls for the final wicket to help their side get to some total there. This match is far from over. A tournament final with 131 on the board with 20 overs to play, Mumbai will not say it's a cakewalk as nerves do play their game. It played when the Capitals batters were batting as they fell like a pack of cards. But what a time to rescue them. Last wicket and it stitched a 52-run stand. That fightback from DCW. Radha smashed two sixes off the final two balls. Mumbai shall get this but Delhi are surely in the contest now. Back with the chase.

Capitals go past 100
Shikha Pandey is getting some very crucial runs as the Capitals have gone past 100. Can she guide them past 125? Wong has leaked 20 runs in the 19th as this partnership is now 36 off 18 balls.

March 26, 2023 8:50 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Matthews ends dream spell
Matthews has bowled a dream spell in the final. My Goodness, have you seen these figures- 4 overs, 5 runs, 2 maidens, and 3 wickets in a T20 game? Mindblowing numbers. She takes the purple cap as well. She is tied on 16 with Ecclestone and has better Economy. Shikha and Radha are trying to get crucial runs.
-
March 26, 2023 8:47 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Bhatia goes
Matthews has gone berserk. What a ball this was to get Taniya Bhatia clean-bowled. It pitched outside off and spun sharply to beat the batter. Lanning in the dugout is disappointed.

March 26, 2023 8:45 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Minnu stumped out
And the flow of wickets continues as Minnu has now been stumped out.
-
March 26, 2023 8:37 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Time out
It's the second time-out of the innings. What are we seeing? Capitals are all in mess and Mumbai are roaring loud. The capitals are 77/7 after 14 and are finding it really hard. Is the pitch assisting bowlers or have the batters gifted some wickets? Yes, there is some helpo for the bowlers but I guess it's the latter thing happening. How much can they get now?
-
March 26, 2023 8:32 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Capitals in mess
And Capitals keep losing wickets and this time Arundhati walks back as she has been caught. Capitals 6 down. Oh no!! Make it 7. Jonassen has handed this one straight to Hayley and MIW are cock-a-hoop.
-
March 26, 2023 8:27 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Body blow for Delhi
And it's Lanning who has been run out. This is a serious blow and a big one to the Capitals. Jonassen pushed it to the off-side and they ran. But Lanning has been caught well short of her crease. What are they doing there?
-
March 26, 2023 8:22 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Kapp goes back
And now Amelia Kerr joins the wicket-takers column This was a good ball on a good length and held its line. Kapp tried defending it and finds a tickle as Yastika grabs it. The partnership was growing and was of 38 runs but Mumbai have managed to break it as DCW are 4 down.

March 26, 2023 8:09 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Time-out
It's time to make some strategies. Delhi are at 53/3 after 8 overs as Mumbai are ahead at the moment. Lanning is still there and is scoring well but Kapp is finding it hard to score.
-
March 26, 2023 7:59 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
DCW 38/3 after 6
And DCW have lost three of their big names in the powerplay. It's Shafali, Capsey and Rodrigues back and all fell to Wong's full-tosses. Lanning is the key now along with Kapp.
-
March 26, 2023 7:56 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Wong is doing it for MIW
Wong has now taken her third and has got the wicket of Jemimah Rodrigues. This is excellent from the MI bowler. This was another full-toss but a lower one this time as Rodrigues tried slicing it between point and backward point. But a good take by the point fielder. DCW are in trouble. Kapp now comes in

March 26, 2023 7:49 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
Delhi reply back
Delhi are replying well with Rodrigues, and Lanning taking a counter-attacking approach. A crucial phase in the innings as Ishaque has come to bowl the 4th over of the game.

Make it two. This is what perfect starts are called. Won first got Shafali on high full toss and now Capsey on another full toss. MIW are off to some start.

Players to watch out
Both teams are sort of evenly matched with superstars from top to bottom. For DCW, Meg Lanning, Shafali Verma, and Marizanne Kapp will be crucial, while Jess Jonassen and Shikha Pandey will be some players to watch with the ball. For MIW, Nat Sciver and Harmanpreet lead the batters' chart with the former being a pretty handy bowler too. They have all-rounders like Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews who have proven to be match-winners.

Kaur is aware of Lanning-Shafali threat
Kaur acknowledged Lanning and Shafali are a serious pair in the competition.
I think in this tournament, they (Lanning and Shafali) are the best opening combination. Against us also in the last game, they did really well. Even against other teams, they are giving good starts. We know what they can do and how dangerous they are. We have some plans, and hopefully, we will execute them in the final.
-
March 26, 2023 6:06 PM (IST) Posted by Varun Malik
What they said
Both the captains are aware of threats posed by the other team.
Lanning on Harmanpreet:
Coming up against Harman is always a good challenge. She has shown that she is an excellent leader and gets results both individually and within the team. It is always a great contest against a team led by Harman.
