IPL 2022 MI VS LSG Highlights: KL Rahul's century hands MI 6th defeat in a row as LSG register 18-run win

LSG beat MI by 18 runs

Lucknow Super Giants registered their fourth win of the season by beating Mumbai Indians in the 26th match of the IPL 2022 here at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday. KL Rahul scored a century while Avesh Khan took three crucial wickets for LSG. With this win LSG are now placed second in the points table while Mumbai are the wooden spooner as they are yet to win a gam in this season.

OUT! Pollard is out caught at deep mid-wicket. Unbelievable season for Mumbai Indians. LSG win by 18 runs and hand Mumbai Indians their 6th straight defeat of the season.

OUT! Yes - no - yes - no, and Unadkat is run out sacrificing his wicket for Pollard. Okay, M Ashwin comes in, hits a massive six, and runs himself out. Pollard on strike now.

MI 174/6 after 19 overs: Holder to ball the penultimate over. A searing yorker to Pollard on the second ball, and he has no choice, but to take a single. Well. well.. well. Unadkat is on fire here. A massive six, followed by 2 boundaries. He has infused life into this match.

MI 157/6 after 18 overs: Avesh Khan comes back into the attack. Pollard starts the over with a boundary. He looks motivated. OUT! Fabin Allen is caught near third man. Just Pollard now. Talk about formalities. Unadkat is the new batter who hits a boundary first ball.

MI 148/5 after 17 overs: Alright, this is getting interesting now. Pollard has smashed Chameera for back-to-back sixes. Brute power. Chameera does well to not go for more after that initial Pollard assault. Can Polly and Allen pull this off?

OUT!  Another one bites the dust. This time it's Sky who has got out to a nothing delivery from Ravi Bishnoi. A short ball and he has holed it straight to Gowtham at deep square. All over for MI. Or is it? With Pollard and Allen at the crease, you never say never. But it's really tough now.

OUT! Tilak Varma is out-bowled by Holder. This was long coming. MI staring at their 6th straight defeat this season.

MI 120/3 after 14 overs: Just 4 runs from that Avesh Khan over. What a man to have in your team. Superb effort from Khan. What are MI thinking?

MI 116/3 after 13 overs: Another boundary from Sky. The placement was the key here as he puts it between third man and point. Good shot. Another one. This time it's Tilak Varma who smashes it to the left of long-off. Much needed hits for MI.

MI 104/3 after 12 overs: Finally a good over for MI. A boundary each from Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. Some respite for them. The rising run rate is still the issue though.

MI 93/3 after 11 overs: Again, not anything substantial. MI need 107 from the last 9 overs. They are making it tough for themselves. A moving over coming up?

MI 86/3 after 10 overs: Nothing much happening right now. Both teams seem to be going through the motions. Meanwhile, the run rate has climbed to 11 an over for MI

MI 78/3 after 9 overs: Great shot from Sky first-up. A powerful flick over mid-wicket for four. A quiet over otherwise.

MI 71/3 after 8 overs: Holder is back into the attack. Singles, doubles, a couple of wides, and MI collect 10 from it.

Tilak Varma & Sky are at the crease. This pair holds the key for MI if they are to chase 200 down. Looks tough, to be honest. But Cricket is a funny game.

OUT! Ishan Kishan is out bowled. MI are now 3 down. LSG on top. MI are 62/3 after 7 overs.

57 is now the highest powerplay score for MI this season. Tells you how it has been for them this time around.
Ever heard of the commentator's curse? Brevis is out caught! Nevertheless, End of an entertaining knock. MI are 57/2 after 6 overs.

Alright, just drop whatever you're doing, and watch Brevis bat. He is putting on an exhibition here. First Chameera, and now Avesh, he is hitting like there's no tomorrow. Two boundaries in a row.

Mumbai Indians 49/1 after 5 overs:  Wow! Brevis. Just Wow! This boy is for the future. Wonderful six to long-on followed by a brilliant cut shot for four towards square leg. Wait, there's another one. Another boundary towards long-off and Brevis has dismantled Chameera here.

Mumbai Indians 16/1 in 2.4 overs Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma gets dismissed in the third over of the chase against Avesh Khan. Sharma never looked in good touch in his seven balls stay at the crease. He scored six runs with one boundary in it. The ball was just around the fourth stump, Rohit went for a cut but the ball was too close for the shot, gets a thin outside edge and de Kock took a diving catch to end his innings.

Here we go again! Mumbai Indians need 200 runs to get their first points of the season while LSG need to defend 200 to get back on winning ways. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma are out in the middle for Mumbai while Jason Holder and Dushmantha Chameera are opening the bowling for Lucknow Super Giants.

Alright, Mumbai Indians need 200 to set the ball rolling for them this season. They would hope for Rohit and Ishan to fire in unison. That's the only way they chase this monster of a target down.

Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back.

OUT! Hooda is out caught trying to help the ball over the keeper. LSG finishes with 199 on board.

Brilliant century by KL Rahul. 101 from 56 deliveries. Has been a treat to watch him bat today. Drive, pull, cut - he has put on an exhibition today. LSG are now 196/3 after 19 overs.

LSG 173/3 after 18 overs: A lot of singles and doubles in the over as Bumrah finishes his quota of 4 overs.

LSG 164/3 after 17 overs: Unakdat dishes out a low full-toss, and Rahul takes complete toll. Smashes the ball to deep backward point for a boundary. A good over for MI otherwise. Rahul isn't able to put the ball away as much as he would like here.

OUT! Stoinis is out. Unadkat comes back into the attack and gets the big man. Important breakthrough for MI. Good catch from Rohit.

LSG 154/2 after 16 overs: Bumrah comes back into the attack and gives his skipper another quiet over. What a bowler. Just 4 from the over.

LSG 150/1 after 15 overs: MI fans, look away. Rahul is tearing Allen apart. A boundary followed by a six to deep mid-wicket. Ends the over with another maximum. LSG are on the move here. MI are in trouble.

LSG 132/2 after 14 overs: Marcus Stoinis is the new batter, and he is in no mood to wait around. Launches the ball for a 102 M six over long-on. Terrific hit. MI just can't catch a break, can they?

OUT! Ashwin comes back into the attack and knocks over Manish Pandey. An important wicket for MI as LSG were looking to break free.

LSG 124/1 after 13 overs: Another boundary because of the misfield. The fielding has been poor for MI in this match. The fielder is getting to the ball but just isn't able to hold onto it. One of those days, I reckon. Mills is bowling all over the place. No control whatsoever and he is being punished with Pandey hitting two boundaries in a row. Ends the over with another bad delivery and this time Rahul hits him for a boundary. 4 boundaries in the over and MI need wickets quickly.

LSG 106/1 after 12 overs: 50 up for KL Rahul. Has been a great knock. He should look to accelerate now.

LSG 98/1 after 11 overs: Just 4 runs from the over.

Rahul is looking to play his shots now. MI needs to be cautious. He can take the game away in an instant.

LSG 94/1 after 10 overs: Unadkat comes back into the attack and is greeted with a terrific six from Rahul. A nothing delivery asking to be hit, and KL accepts. Launched that one into stands.

LSG 84/1 after 9 overs: Rubbish delivery to start the over for Ashwin. A full toss to Rahul who just puts it into the stands for a six. Ashwin pulls things back after that scary first ball.

LSG 74/1 after 8 overs: A good over for MI spoiled in the last two balls. Twin boundaries to end the over. The last one could have just been a couple. Surya is the culprit.

LSG 61/1 after 7 overs: M Ashwin comes back into the attack. A quiet over for LSG.

Credit must go to Rohit for bringing Allen in for the last powerplay over. He knew QDK would go after him.  Good captaincy on display.

Manish Pandey is the new batter and slams the first ball for a boundary to mid-off. LSG is 57/1 after 6 overs.
OUT! Fabian Allen comes into the attack and sends back QDK. Got a bit too excited after a six on the previous ball, I reckon. Tried to reverse sweep this one, got hit on the pad, and the umpire gives it. There's the wicket MI were looking for.

LSG 46/0 after 5 overs: Tymal Mills comes into the attack and KL Rahul has hit a beautiful lofted drive through extra covers. What a shot. Poor first ball from Mills. Was probably looking for swing. But there isn't any.

Tries the short ball now and almost had Rahul. The batter got into an awkward position while trying to pull and the ball flies over fine leg for a boundary.

Wow! What a shot this. In the slot for Rahul who puts it into the stands for a six. Vintage Rahul.

LSG 30/0 after 4 overs: Quiet over for LSG. A good one for Mumbai. But Rohit would have liked a wicket here. The ball is coming onto the bat pretty nicely.

Rohit has called Bumrah in for the fourth over. He is searching for a wicket. The first three bowlers haven't looked like taking a wicket. Well, this has been their problem throughout this season.

LSG 27/0 after 3 overs: M Ashwin comes into the attack, and QDK takes him on with two boundaries in a row. Sharma is trying to motivate Ashwin, but if he keeps dishing half-volleys like this to QDK, he will keep murdering them.

LSG 16/0 after 2 overs: Unadkat comes into the attack and De Kock slashes the ball through backward point for a boundary. Brilliant shot. Oh, a great comeback for Unadkat. The ball straightens a bit and just about misses the middle stump. Even an edge could have been in play. Quinton pays back. Another slash for four. Great cricketing over.

LSG after 7/0 1 over:  KL Rahul doesn't spare any bad balls in the powerplay. Varma throws this one just a bit short and KL pulls it through deep mid-wicket for a boundary. Great effort from Fabian in the deep, but he couldn't stop it. Good over after that.

Mumbai throws a surprise first-up. Tilak Varma will start the attack for the five-time champions. Rahul is on strike. Here we go...
