MI vs KKR, IPL 2023 Highlights: Mumbai defeat Kolkata by 5 wickets

And MI have registered their second win of the tournament. They have comprehensively defeated KKR by 5 wickets at their home. The crowd is all cheered up and so are the players. A wonderful chase well set by Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. 

SKY will have to walk back and he will not be able to finish it for MI. 43 runs for him and this knock shall give him the much needed boost. 10 needed in 21 balls.

The game is very much in the pocket of MI. Just 23 runs are needed in the final 5 overs. Suryakumar and David are in the middle.

Suyash dismisses the in-form batter Tilak Varma. MI need 39 off 37 balls.

And it's another one. Chakaravarthy gets the dangerous Kishan bowled out. He falls for a well made 58 off 25 balls. Kishan has set a brilliant platform. Can Mi cash in? Tilak has come in now.

Mumbai are off to a flier despite losing Rohit. The credit goes to Ishan Kishan, who is hitting at 250. He has scored 45 off 18 and is now joined by Suryakumar in the middle.

And Rohit has been caught out at mid-off. What a brilliant catch this was. Suyash gets the big fish.

Ishan is going all guns blazing. He has 2 sixes and 3 fours in his 26-run knock so far. MI are at 35/0 after 3.

And Mumbai have began their chase. Interestingly, Rohit Sharma has walked out to bat as an impact player. He has replaced Meredith. Menahwhile, KKR have called Suyash Sharma as their impact substitute in place of Venkatesh.

So, KKR have managed to get to 185/6 in the 20 overs. A good total well led by the centurion Venkatesh Iyer. He was the only batter to look comfortable against the bowlers. KKR made a fine start with Iyer going all guns blazing. MI chipped in with regular wickets. Iyer smashed his maiden IPL ton and became only the second centurion ever for KKR in the history of IPL. MI spinners bowled tightly in the middle-phase, trying to pull things back and they probably did a bit as no other batter could get going. Can MI get there? We shall find that out soon. And now Rinku Singh departs. Duan Jansen gets him caught on the leg side boundary. Not his day today as he made a 18-ball 18. KKR 6 down.

And Venkatesh Iyer departs after smashing a brilliant 100. It was a fuller on leg from Meredith, Iyer changed his stance and tried to reverse scoop over short third but could not clear the fielder inside the ring and falls after that fantastic knock. Russell is in the middle now.

And here it is... A well made hundred by Venkatesh Iyer. An inning of high class from a talented young Indian. This is his maiden IPL ton and only second for Kolkata Knight Riders ever. 

KKR are at 146/4 after 16 overs. They are going well and MI are trying to pull things back. Barring Venkatesh, others are not going that well.

It's time-out in the first innings. KKR are going well and strong and they have scored 135 for the loss of 4 wickets in 14 overs. Venkatesh is in 90s and we are all set to witness a ton. Can he get it?

Shardul has to go back as Tilak Varma takes a wonderful diving catch at deep mid-wicket. This was flighted well by Hrithik as Shardul wanted to clear the ropes on the leg side. But he found Tilak at the fence. Rinku now comes in with Venkatesh. Expect some more fireworks coming now.

It looks MI are not having answers for Venkatesh today. He is still going over 200 strike rate and is in 80s in the 12th over. Looks he will get a big hundred today. No jinx!!

Venkatesh Iyer 63 (29) and Shardul Thakur 3 (4) are in action for KKR. 

Iyer has smashed a wonderful fifty in the match. He is leading the charge well and now looks set for a big one. He smashed 53 off 23 balls.

Hrithik Shokeen dismisses KKR skipper Rana 5 (10). Kolkata are now 3 down.

Piyush Chawla comes and he strikes in his forst over. He removes Gurbaz, who was struggling to get runs. This was pitched up and stayed straight as Gurbaz tried to slog it but gets a edge, which is taken at short-third. Nitish Rana has come in now. KKR are at 57/2 after the first 6 overs. This is a mixed sort of start for both.

KKR have crossed the 50-run mark in 5 overs as Venkatesh is going well. He is smoking big hits and is leading the attack well. Meanwhile, Venkatesh is nearing his 50 too. MI need to get him now.

Meamwhile, Gurbaz and Venkatesh are looking to stabilise the things. Venkatesh is looking good and is playing over 200 strike rate, while Gurbaz is struggling for runs.

And here is the opening strike. Cameromn Green gets Jagadeesan in his first over and its a good start for Mumbai. 

KKR batters- Jagadeesan and Gurbaz are in the middle. Arjun bowls the opening over. What a day for the young man. Will he make his mark today?

Rohit Sharma enjoys a terrific record against KKR in IPL. He has scored 1020 in 31 matches at an average of more than 40 with six fifties and a century to his name. Moreover, he is also coming off a brilliant half-century in the chase against DC in the previous outing.

Best Bowler of the Match: Piyush Chawla

Mumbai Indians' bowling might be inexperienced as a unit but they have a veteran in Piyush Chawla in their team. The leg-spinner is coming off a three-wicket haul in the previous game and will play a key role in this game too. There is a big match up for him against Andre Russell who has been dismissed by leg-spinners so far in this IPL season.

Wankhede Stadium has so far hosted only one game this season and it was between MI and CSK. The chasing side won the game comfortably while there was turn and bounce for the bowlers in the first innings. Hence, the team winning the toss will look to bowl first.

Weather forecast is set to be clear for this crucial encounter between MI and KKR. Humidity is likely to trouble players more with this being an afternoon game. There is no chance of rain whatsoever.

Meanwhile, Mumbai are mulling over Jofra Archer's availability in the game. He missed the previous two games due to an elbow issue and according to reports, he can miss this match as well. Tim David was asked about Jofra in pre-match press conference. "At the moment Jof is being managed by the medical team and I am not a part of those conversations. Whenever they have him ready to play he will be ready to go," David said.
