Meet the Contenders of the T20 world Cup

New Delhi: With the fifth edition of the World T20 tournament almost underway, every participating nation will be eyeing for the coveted trophy. But there are some teams which will be starting as favourites in the tournaments. Let's take a look at the possible contenders of the trophy. India: The team whose fan following is probably the highest in the world. The men in blue have showed that they can fit in the shortest format perfectly by winning the maiden World T20 in 2007. But after that stellar performance there seems to be a downturn in the T20 format. The present edition is going to provide Team India the perfect setting to prove that they are still the boss in the shortest format of the game. India at present is ranked number two at the ICC rankings of T20 championship. Sri Lanka: The island nation who are currently ranked number one in the ICC rankings of T20 championship will try to prove a point that they are not chokers. After being defeated in the finals of 2009 and 2012, the team will look to cross the final hurdle this time. Under the captainship of Dinesh Chandimal the team will look to win the cup. The team has recently performed very well in the just concluded asia cup that was held in Bangladesh. . The T20 will also be held in the same country and Sri lanka have a bunch of all rounders who play a very important role in this format of the game. Pakistan: The most inconsistent yet the most dangerous cricketing side. The champions of the 2009 will look to repeat their heroics once again. The team led by Mohammed Hafiz will look to lift the trophy once again to prove a point or two to the critics who are criticizing the level of cricket in Pakistan. The third ranked team in ICC T20 will definitely try to improve on their performance. It is one of the few sides who have strong bowling line up in comparison to their batting. South Africa: It is the team that have fail to prove their mettle on the big stage. But that may finally change this time around. Their best performance till date has been in the 2009 where they finished as the one of the semi- finalist. This time around they will look to cross one step further and reach the big finals and lay their hands upon the trophy. Currently they are positioned at number four in ICC rankings of T20 championship. Australia: The tag of being the T20 champions has been eluding the most successful cricketing nation since the beginning of the tournament. They have been the finalist in 2010 and semi finalist in 2007 and 2012. The team has a bunch of talented players who can take the team to the doors of victory on any given day. The team will be led by George Bailey who will look to get the only trophy which has been not in their kitty. The Australian team is currently ranked at number fifth in ICC T20 rankings. West Indies: The defending champions will be looking to defend their T20 title. The team has got all the ingredients that is necessary for a T20 team. The spin attack will be led by mystery bowler Sunil Narine while the batting department will be led by the giant Jamaican Chris Gayle. The number sixth ranked team in T20 will definitely try to improve upon their rankings and also prove a point that the victory of 2012 was not just an one off shot. New Zealand: The Kiwis are really the dark horses in this tournament. No team can do the mistake of taken them lightly. The Black Caps have time and again proved to be giant killers and being the spoilsport in many occasions. The number seventh ranked team under the captainship of dashing batsman Brendon Mc Cullum will definetly look to move beyond the semi-final hurdle and stake claim of being the t20 champions. England: The champions in the 2010 edition of the T20 world Cup will be eyeing to repeat their 2010 heroics. The English team has been on the receiving end in the recent times and will definitely look on to improve upon their performance and bring back smiles on the face of the English supporters.
