He had a good all-round first-class season in 2013-14, where he scored 443 runs and took 14 wickets, and got his maiden national call up in the One-Day International squad for New Zealand but played only one match.
He was part of a second string Indian squad for the ODIs against Bangladesh in June 2014, and hogged the headlines with figures of 6 for 4 in the second ODI, topping Anil Kumble's record for the best ODI bowling figures by an Indian. Being a medium pacer with pretty decent batting credentials meant that he also got a Test call up for the England tour.
Binny who got a chance to play in the first of the five test match series made his debut but was not so much successful in the first innings were he got out cheaply.
There was immense pressure on him to pull out team India from a precarious situation in the second innings Binny and medium pacer Bhuvaneshwar Kumar then continued the resistance, adding 91 for the 9th wicket in just 19.4 overs. Binny was ultimately foxed by spinner Moeen Ali, whose delivery pitched in line, turned and crashed into Binny's front leg. By this time though, the lead was 310 and out of England's reach.
