Cape Town, South Africa: Allrounders Ryan McLaren and Wayne Parnell have been called into South Africa's test squad for the three-match home series against Australia, signaling they are the contenders to replace the retired Jacques Kallis.
McLaren and Parnell are included in the top-ranked Proteas' 15-man squad announced Wednesday. They replaced Kallis, who played his final test last month, and spinner Imran Tahir, who was dropped.
The remainder of South Africa's squad was unchanged from the series win over India last month with wicketkeeper batsman AB de Villiers picked despite only recovering from surgery to remove a plate in his left hand two weeks ago.
The bulk of Australia's squad arrives in South Africa on Wednesday following a 5-0 drubbing of England in the Ashes. The first test at Centurion starts Feb. 12.
