London, May 2: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) says it plans to spend up to 200 million pounds ($312 million) on a redevelopment of Lord's between 2014 and 2027.
Work will start next year with the redevelopment of the Warner Stand and continue with the rebuilding of the Tavern, Allen, Compton and Edrich stands. Capacity at the ground in northwest London will increase from 2,700 to 32,000.
The MCC says its plans are underpinned by “the need for the club to secure two tests and two ODIs in years where there are two touring teams.”
New entertaining, retail and office facilities will also be built.
Meanwhile, the MCC also announced Wednesday that former England and Middlesex captain Mike Gatting will serve as its next president, starting Oct. 1.
