Mumbai, Aug 15: Concerned by India's humiliating series loss against England, the BCCI today left it to its president and secretary to decide the future course of action and work out remedial measures to check the team's slide.

The BCCI's Working Committee, which met here today barely three days after India were dethroned from the number one Test ranking after going down 0-3 in the ongoing series, briefly discussed the debacle before leaving it on to its two top-most office bearers to devise an action plan.

“The matter was briefly discussed and we have left it to our President (Shashank Manohar) and Secretary (N Srinivasan) to think it over. We are certainly concerned at the results,” a top BCCI source said after the Working Committee meeting.

The BCCI also decided that a former cricketer can now be eligible to be a national selector after five years of retirement instead of the earlier stipulated 10 years.

The Board took the decision to reduce the ‘cooling-off' period from 10 to five years for a player to become a member of the senior selection committee to widen the pool of eligible candidates.

“It was felt that 10 years was too long. So we have decided to make it five years now. This will ensure that we have a wider pool of eligible candidates to become national selectors,” the source said.

The source said that the meeting was largely devoted to ratifying reports of various committees ahead of the Board's Annual General Meeting to be held here on September 19 and 20.

“The Accounts for the year 2010-11 were approved at the meeting. It was also decided that the 83rd Annual General Meeting of the Board will be held on 19th and 20th September 2011 at the Cricket Centre, Mumbai,” BCCI Secretary and President-elect N Srinivasan said in a statement. PTI
