Melbourne, Dec 18: Undaunted by the prospect of facing a star-studded Indian batting line-up led by the iconic Sachin Tendulkar, young Australian spinner Nathan Lyon said he will focus only on what he is capable of if he is picked for the opening Test in Melbourne starting December 26.
"I know there's a lot of talk about how good they are against spin, but how they play is out of my control, I'll just worry about my own skill set," Lyon told 'The Sydney Morning Herald'.
"I'll just do the basics right and see how the game unfolds. My first hope is I'm picked for the Test, the team hasn't been named yet, fingers crossed I am and if I get to bowl against Sachin Tendulkar it will be unbelievable.
"But in saying that, I'll be playing for Australia, he'll be there for India, so I'll be looking for his wicket more than anyone else's," he added.
The 24-year-old off-spinner, who has 22 Test wickets at an average of 24.59, is among the group those looking to fill the spin vacuum left by Shane Warne's retirement.
"Shane Warne is gone and done with. No one is going to be as good as he was so I just worry about what I can do, the tricks in my boxes and I'll take my opportunities," he said.
"Accepting that is the easiest way [to be Australia's spin bowler] and not worry about anything else except what you're capable of doing.
"At the moment I'm focused on bowling orthodox for the time being. If something like a doosra develops a few years down the track I'll have a good look at it," he added.
